Supporting Guyanese pride

Dear Editor,
Our Foreign Minister Carolyn Rodriges-Birkett has said that Guyanese continue to be unfairly targeted by authorities in Trinidad. Recently, Guyanese in Barbados complained to the president and even the former president had his dose where complaining was concerned.
The minister was dealing with the negative perceptions faced by Guyanese, travelling overseas and she singled out Trinidad and Tobago as an example. She said that despite various agreements, the Caricom sister state continues to target Guyanese unfairly, with visitors having to undergo repeated security checks, even when in transit to other countries.
However, as the Minister noted, the same measure is not applied to other nationalities. I really do not know how the Minister will tackle these kinds of problems.
Many of the countries in which Guyanese have settled are in fact benefiting from key services provided by this country and by Guyanese residing therein.
Yours truly,
Sandesh Gobin
